According to past experiences we prefer to have rather a couple or small family instead of singles.
We are a German couple, 70 and 80, retired medical doctors. After having seen many places we decided 13 years ago to spend our retirement in this charming old UNESCO mining town which also is the capital of the State of Guanajuato. Why? Because of the beautiful landscape, high altitude clean air, amazing heritage and an abundance of cultural offers as there are: concerts of all kind, painting, literature, street art, pantomime, film festivals and events all year round, many of them are free of charge because they are funded by the university of the State of Guanajuato (UGTO) which is located here. The town also has several renowned private Spanish language schools for foreigners. Food is good and inexpensive. Dental and other medical care is available at world's standard for very reasonable prices. The infamous drug war does not occur here. We have a relatively small foreign community who is committed to life in Guanajuato. Some of them moved to San Miguel de Allende but sooner or later moved back to Guanajuato. All things considered we think Guanajuato to be one of the world's hidden secrets and most desirable places.
Our house sits high above town and has breathtaking views over the city as well as over the high sierra. It will take you only 10 minutes walk to get to a water reservoir in a protected natural setting where locals go hiking, picknicking, fishing, even swimming.... The local bus will take you for very cheap fare right from our house to the center in 10 minutes. We have a carport at our house and will provide a vehicle. The city center sits inside a steep narrow canyon, everyone walks on foot, most streets run through underground tunnels and parking can be tricky. There are several well equipped supermarkets.
A 5 min. clip called "Guanajuato - Mexico's Dream City" may give you a first impression of the town:

If you are willing to commit yourselves to a long term stay of 5 months we would gladly send more informations (pictures, house, dogs, neighbourhood, facilities etc.) Dog sitting and frequet walks with our 3 sweet rescue dogs into the adjacent sierra is required.
We have flatrate tel./internet at reasonable speed but no satellite TV. Low maintenance plant care (mostly potted cacti and succulents).
